‘Absolutely critical’ you are registered to vote ‘we could get an election with six weeks notice’
People in Wrexham and Clwyd South are being urged to ensure they are registered to vote as the likelihood of a General Election rises.
The local Returning Officer has explained how it is vital everyone ‘has their opportunity to fulfill their democratic rights’.
The Council’s Chief Executive Ian Bancroft is also the Returning Officer for Wrexham and Clwyd South, who is the person appointed to have overall responsibility for the conduct of elections locally.
Mr Bancroft told us it was ‘absolutely critical’ that people are registered to vote.
“It is absolutely critical. If you are in a position to register, but are not registered to vote, please do it.
“You know, we could get an election with six weeks notice. Clearly, there’s been dates talked about in the press overnight. So you know it is really important that everybody has their opportunity to fulfill their democratic rights.
“We absolutely encourage that and support that.”
“It was really good to see the in the last elections, the European election, we did not have the issues that occurred in some other areas where there were problems with people being able to register to vote. I think that’s because we’ve got a really dedicated election team, we take the democratic right really seriously and we will provide the necessary support. If people have queries on registering, please do get in touch with us.”
