A Freedom of Information request has revealed that the bill to North Wales Police for the Olympic Torch relay was £32,281.

North Wales Police said they did not receive funding or take money from other forces to meet their costs.

The cost breakdown was given as :

Additional payments to officers/staff (eg. overtime) – £22,745.58
Subsistence – £4,415.31
‘Other costs’ – £5120.72

Total £32,281.61

We have previously FOI’ed the costs to police Wrexham FC games (details here) which equated to £15,000 for three seasons. The torch relay route was however in several places in North Wales, whereas the Wrexham FC games are in a single location.
