30 nurseries across Wrexham and Flintshire have received the top Health Board accreditation award for early years child nutrition.

The ‘Tiny Tums’ Award is a best practice accolade that recognises early childcare settings like nurseries and family centres for providing good nutrition with their food and drink provision for 1-4 year olds.

Originally developed in 2010, the award now runs across North Wales and involves training for staff to help nurseries ensure that their food and drink provision complies with the Welsh Government Food & Health Guidelines for Early Years and Childcare settings.

Alys Roberts, public health dietitian for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board said, “It’s fantastic that so many early childcare settings in the area are taking part in our accreditation scheme.

“It shows just how committed they are in providing nutritious food and drink in their settings.

“Tiny Tums was first developed in 2010 and since then some of these nurseries are receiving the award for the fourth time which really highlights their ongoing work.

“The Tiny Tums Award allows us as Public Health Dieticians to recognise and support this good work”.
