15 Schools Close Tomorrow For Strike Action

Tomorrow (Thursday) fifteen schools are being closed, or partially closed, due to national strike action.

The schools listed below cite insufficient staffing levels to provide the normal service, with the reason officially stated as: “On 10 July 2014, UNISON, UNITE, GMB and the National Union of Teachers (NUT) will be taking national industrial action.

“Whilst all efforts are being made to maintain essential services to children and young people, the industrial action will mean that we will not be open as usual to pupils on this day.”

Two lists are provided via Wrexham Council’s website, splitting the group into closed schools and schools with partial closures.

The list of closed schools are:

  • Ysgol Sant Dunawd CP, Bangor on Dee – Closed
  • Bwlchgwyn CP – Closed
  • Cefn Mawr CP School – Closed
  • Ysgol Bryn Tabor, Coedpoeth – Closed
  • Gwersyllt Community Primary School – Closed
  • Bryn Alyn High School, Gwersyllt – Closed
  • Ysgol Bro Alun, Gwersyllt – Closed
  • Johnstown Infant School – Closed
  • Black Lane CP, Pentre Broughton – Closed
  • Gwenfro Community Primary School, Wrexham – Closed
  • St Christopher’s School, Wrexham – Closed

The list of partially closed schools are:

  • Ysgol Penrhyn, New Broughton CP – Partially Closed. Details: Key Stage 2 (Juniors) will be open, however all pupils will need to bring a packed lunch. Foundation Phase (Infants) will be closed to all pupils.”
  • Ysgol Plas Coch CP, Wrecsam – Partially Closed. Details: The school will be closed for the following classes on Thursday, July 10th due to industrial action: Clywedog, Alun, Bers, Erddig, Dyfrdwy, Clwyd, Yr 3 (Miss Yaxley). There will be no breakfast club and all children attending will need to bring with them their own packed lunch. After school club will run as usual.
  • Acton Park Community Primary, Wrexham – Partially Closed. Details: Whilst all efforts are being made to maintain essential services to children and young people, the following classes will be closed to pupils: Dosbarth Aur closed to pupils Dosbarth Melyn closed to pupils All other classes will remain open. Canteen facilities are closed. Parents to provide packed lunch for their child please.
  • St Mary’s Catholic Primary, Wrexham – Partially Closed. Details: St Mary’s Catholic Primary School is partially open on Thursday 10th July Mrs Sawyer’s,Miss Thompson’s,Miss Mc Carthy’s and Mrs Myer’s classes are open The rest are not due to insufficient cover All pupils have been sent a letter. The busus are running as normal There will be no meals – not even free school meals provided so all pupils will need to bring a packed lunch.
