AngiebabyParticipantFirstly I reject the suggestion that I’m playing party politics with anyone. I don’t hide my political leanings, but have purposefully kept this particular issue non partisan.
In relation to other roofless individuals in Wrexham, I have spent nights driving around trying to locate the other settlements that we’ve heard about, and our group has helped many who aren’t on the Groves – including supporting one young woman for 5 hours overnight at casualty.
This morning I was delivering a fresh sleeping bag and some food and water to a gentleman who sleeps rough in the town centre. He declined the thermal mat because he has one – I’ll save it for someone else.
Just to be clear, I am on no pedestal. I’ve made as many mistakes as most people. My feet are clay.
You’re right about the morning fix, nobody would argue with that. However people still need to eat.
I don’t judge someone’s worth by their addiction, and unlike the cynics on here I have hope, for them and humanity. Pity you that don’t.
AngiebabyParticipantInteresting – so where do you draw the line on ‘self inflicted’?
How about the chap who climbs Snowdon and breaks his leg? Air ambulance is bloody expensive – I didn’t force him to climb up that mountain!
The skiers? Boxers? Nobody forces them either!
What about the woman who ate too many pies? Best not treat her heart condition! The smokers? Let them die!
And don’t get me started on choking infants! After all, nobody forces them to stick that Lego brick in their mouth…..
AngiebabyParticipantThat says more about you than it does about him.
I hope the poor man’s alright.
AngiebabyParticipantIt’s not all I can muster it’s just better than you deserve.
I suggest that if your debate descends into the realms of personal insults, then it is you, not the addicts that is degenerate.
Have a good evening, full of happy dreams of a peaceful and smooth brexit.
AngiebabyParticipantQuote
‘Tell me, Ms. Hammons (a felicitous name, given your impressive girth),’
I might be fat, but you’re a pompous, stuck up arse.
I can diet…..
AngiebabyParticipantWhat you maybe don’t get is that the social problems are everyone’s problems. Recidivist behaviour is halved in this group once they have a stable home. That means that your ‘law abiding citizens’ are safer.
The type of crimes these individuals are imprisoned for are pretty thefts of food and/or alcohol and small time shoplifting to fund their habit. These are not dangerous criminal masterminds.
I’ve answered your question – I have no grandparents. I am a grandparent. They can be housed next to me when they’re ready to take that step – at the moment they’re not and need a lot of support.
AngiebabyParticipantOut of curiosity then, if you don’t see addressing the very real social issues in the town as the role of the council, what do you consider to be their role?
Surely any plan should start with looking at the scale of the problem, the effectiveness of previous interventions, what the budget is and how you’ll measure future success?
Incidentally – if you’re thinking of a purely fiscal system of governance, they pay outside contractors to do that, so what role is there for the elected officials?
AngiebabyParticipantWell I presume that the council have records of their own budgets. They keep saying they’ve got a plan – so let’s hear it.
As for the 2 FOI requests, I’d imagine that the housing records are a good place to start for the data on rehousing and the registry of births and deaths a starting point for the data on deaths.
Both offices are within 20 yards of the guildhall – one is actually inside it!
Am I missing something?
AngiebabyParticipantIt’s very easy for the council to fudge the issue and pass it from pillar to post.
In the meantime, a minimum of 11 people were sleeping in tents during last night and this morning’s torrential downpour! It’s rained for a week – do they have any idea what it feels like to be in a tent in this weather?
They make me sick!
AngiebabyParticipantI haven’t seen the piece but the postcodes outside the Wrexham area are from neighbouring counties like Chester and Rhyl.
Oh and London – one of them is the shadow chancellor John McDonnell. -
