These elections are a total farce with all the nondescript parties that no one has heard of expecting people to vote for them. We are almost in the days of the Monster Raving Loony Party which at least had colorful characters. Some of the parties these days standing would be better off using the funding they are spending on doing something really good. All of these ‘extra’ parties do is create spoilers and spread the vote more thinly.
No party have issued any propaganda about how much we pay as a country and how much we get back out. Wrexham has been a poor recipient of European funding for many years compared with most of West Wales so we certainly have not gained anything significant. Sustainable job creation has been non existent in Wrexham — we have gained a crazy paving in King Street (which I believe was European Funding to Welsh Government). Many regulations from Europe have benefited people including Working Time Directive, Employment rights etc.
Will someone please explain what we have gained which we would not have achieved without being a member of the EU.

Having one constituency for the whole of Wales is a retrograde step, the reality is everything is centred on Cardiff. The whole Wales system is gradually creeping to other areas covering local government , emergency services , law and order. We need locally accountable representatives who know our area well.

Local accountability is already in place in principle in the form of Assembly Members and MPs. What however is not in place is the opportunity to debate with these representatives issues of concern at a local level. The election system gets them into office but then nothing — unless it is a very personal issue and you want to take the matter to one of the surgeries these elected people hold.
As far as Regional AMs are concerned these positions seem a total waste of time- they take forward local issues that constituents take to them but again when do they hold a meeting for people to come together to discuss regional issues such as the economy, transport or health.
I am surprised about Wrexview about decisions being made in Cardiff — lets look back at the way Wrexham Councilors operate — they make decisions locally but it does not mean that they engage with local people and more than an AM does.
Personally I don’t care where decisions are made so long as they are the most appropriate for the Wrexham area.

In the 1999 Euro Election UKIP managed a mere 3% of the votes, looks like if predictions are correct they could have in the region 30% this time round. That could mean Derek Vaughan Labour and Jill Evans Plaid will both be re-elected together with two new UKIP members ,as John Bufton was not seeking re-election, Nathan Gill and James Cole. However we are in the realms of proportional representation so we might see Kay Swinbourne retain her seat for the Conservatives which would infact maintain the status quo after months of campaigning and a forest of trees destroyed to produce the mountain of paper that was delivered through our doors but that’s what democracy is all about!

Poor turnout in Wrexham under 30% but in Denbighshire turnout is up 3% , such small margins could have a big effect on the eventual outcome.

If those who don’t register to vote joined forces with those who register but still don’t vote they would be the majority and as such hold enough power to change things!
