AMA ExpressParticipantWill they also be allowing 16 year olds to join the Regular Army and fight on the frontline ?
And, as there’s such a huge shortage of HGV drivers in the UK, they should also be giving more consideration to reducing the qualifying age from 21 to 18.

MargaretAParticipant
Woah – way to have all the fun sucked out of the thread. Why is there a sense of oversensitivity that you aren’t allowed to poke fun out of prospective politicians and it must be all serious mass debate, mass debate, mass debate happening all the time.
You only need to look at this country and we have always satirised and mocked politicians going right back to the formation of Parliament. To have making fun made illegal of politicians then we would perhaps consider ourselves citizens of an oppressed country like North Korea.
The lad himself hasn’t said his feelings are hurt – a youthful look is a compliment 9 out of 10 times. No reason to take offence on his behalf.
Quite frankly whether or not he looks like Baby Face Finlayson plays second fiddle to the fact that in the article – aside from wanting to Remain in Europe. He mentions NOTHING WHATSOEVER about what he is going to do for the Good people of Clwyd South. So if he gets voted in what does he know of any other Non-Brexit key policy issues that affect us on a daily basis – such as the NHS, failing schools, brutal cuts to public services, lack of provision in social care for the elderly and disabled. The continued closure of services in rural areas and reduction of public transport, a lack of jobs and opportunities for young people and also older people who have recently been made redundant – like the closure of Tomlinson’s Dairy in Coedpoeth.
That’s where he is going to get absolutely hammered on the doorsteps when he comes round to the likes of Cefn, Plas Madoc, Rhos, Penycae, Brymbo, New Broughton etc… He’s going to harp on Just about the single issue of Brexit and Remain and quite frankly people aren’t going to be interested.
Most of the issues that affect everyday life are devolved anyway.November 13, 2019 at 5:32 pm #176915

Most of the issues that affect everyday life are devolved anyway.
The austerity preventing enough money being spent on many of these issues is driven down directly from Westminster. As whenever funds are allocated on spends for England, Wales then gets the equivalent measures through the Barnett formula.
Also if you think that your local MP is less effective than your AM then you must be joking. Can anyone remember one of our AMs doing anything up North for anything other than a photo opp?

I think that if we question the prospective candidates about ‘the everyday issues ‘, the reply will be ‘It’s devolved.’ Like many others, I just do not know how to vote this time.

I’d feel like if I was fobbed off with the response that such and such is a devolved issue then why aren’t you lobbying the corresponding AMs and ministers in the WAG because these are issues that people care about. It was in regular occasion Ian Lucas would ask a question in Parliament concerning a local issue. He was also involved in the Homeless Gold Group locally.
Likewise you get the same value back from Susan Elan Jones – she knows her constituents and the area’s shortcomings inside and out. The concern is that a candidate a bit wet behind the ears trying to blame things on devolution whether they be Lib Dems or Tory or Brexit Party will come across as weak. Because you can bet your last quid that Plaid Cymru will also be aware of the local issues and not be scared of tackling a devolved issue – so that they can at least match Labour on policy and issue awareness.

DerekJacksonParticipantA key question to all candidates is-
What do they know about the Barnet formula?
What have both Labour and Conservatives ever done over the past 20 plus years to get the Barnet formula revised? (this is so antiquated and needs amending to bring up to date)
What can the candidates confirm will happen in Wales with the funding announced by Boris and Jeremy? Have they even spoken with Welsh Government–
So far Wales is not being given any true consideration in the election campaign from the mainstream Parties- with the lack of input into Wales post the election how can the elctoarte of Wales know what outcome they are voting forNovember 14, 2019 at 6:39 pm #176971
wrexviewParticipantWonder how a candidate from Somerset expects to get elected here in Wrexham?

And a little Google search shows he was originally selected for Tiverton and Honiton! This is , of course, a Farage target seat.November 15, 2019 at 9:58 am #176983
wrexviewParticipantDevon online in 0ctober 2019 has Berkeley -Hurst as the prospective candidate for Tiverton and Honition , just at you say. It also says he will keep his promises to the people of Tiverton and Honiton . That didn’t last long !

KatiaParticipantThank you Wrexham.com for your election coverage and interviews with the local candidates.
Local Conservative candidate Sarah Atherton was discussed on BBC2 Politics Live during an interview with former Conservative candidate Andrew Atkinson.
A clip has been posted on here.ITV Wales debate was extremely poor because we learned next to nothing about the candidates.
Wrexham was visited by Channel 4 News today with their reporter Gary Gibbon finding some voters are minded to vote for the Conservatives, mainly to ‘Get Brexit Done’.
Having watched your interview with Sarah Atherton, a question was asked whether she believes she has the support of local Conservatives here in Wrexham. She replied she has. Yet Andrew Atkinson has ‘reservations’ ?
Can anybody ‘in the know’ share what, if any are the objections to Sarah Atherton being the Conservative candidate for Wrexham please ?
Is it anything substantial we should be made aware of ?
