AlunhParticipantBank Street, I’m told, is the oldest retail trading street in Wrexham. It contains the very historic and excellent Marubbi’s Café, family owned for over 100 years, Hayles the Jewellers and many more small businesses.
12 months ago it was looking tired with many shop units empty. In May, I relocated my own business to Bank Street when I was given a good offer on the rent in my current unit. I opened up a unit selling Nostalgia goods but primarily dedicated to Music & Film. This is spread over 2 floors and is geared towards people of a certain age. The reaction has been brilliant and the customer base expanding. We stock well over 1000 different Vinyl LP titles alone as well as a vast stock of DVDs and CDs. We have been the MOJO record shop of the Month and I gather that they are to repeat the exercise soon.
A few weeks after we opened, we noted that the shop next door had let. This has gone to a very swish hairdressers. A few weeks ago we heard that a Comic specialist (with associated products) was due to open further up the street. Bangles and Beads was already open dead opposite me.
Every shop in Bank Street has now been let.
I don’t know if the opening of my shop has helped produce this position but I hope that Wrexham Council will trumpet the success story that is now Bank Street. A full house…..and you can’t beat that

thunderbirdskidParticipantGreat looking street. Complete with a superb butchers and a Timpsons outlet.

AlunhParticipantThose Butchers are stars and the Timpson’s staff so helpful. We’ve got 3 lots of Hairdressers in one street (though in my case it’s a total waste of time)

zingerParticipantBank Street, Charles Street & Church Street are long time favourites of mine. I like small streets rather than High Streets. I like the arcades too & can’t understand why Overton Arcade always fails.

AlunhParticipantI suspect that to get the Overton Arcade to succeed, you’d have to pedestrianize the High Street. We noticed that when the Bus station development took place, people are loathe to cross a street to shop when its busy with traffic. The other alternative would have been to put a crossing dead opposite the Arcade.
Like you, I think that the Overton Arcade has real character

HallowitchParticipantyears ago my wedding ring came from Hayles the Jewellers hand made Welsh Gold we had it about a year before we got married a few months after the wedding I had a small problem with the ring went into the shop no receipt with me explained I had only worn it a few months
Not only was my ring repaired without any problems the owner delivered it to my door one night after the shop closed saying I couldn’t have a newly wed going without her wedding ring great shop first class service in my opinion that’s why its still going and long may it continue

zingerParticipantI remember when there were little shops on Church Walks. I haven’t been there for years since the last time I went they were closed.

zingerParticipantI like Bank Street because the shops are individual & not part of a chain.
