Vacant Land Could Be Used To Create Community Garden & Allotments
A plot of vacant land in Wrexham could be used to create a community garden and allotment space, if proposals are approved by councillors.
In a report due to go before Wrexham Council’s Executive Board tomorrow, it has been recommended that land just off Hampden Way, Rhosymedre, is leased to Cefn Community Council.
The proposals come after Community Council requested a 25 year lease of the unused area of land in Rhosymedre. Cefn Community Council intends to form a partnership between the Community Council, Dee Valley Trust and Rhosymedre & District Garden Association.
If the proposals are approved, the land would be used as a community garden and allotment space for the local area.
Reasons for the Community Council’s request of the land are detailed in the report, which state: “The location of the community garden has been chosen as it is convenient to a significant population in the south of Wrexham which can be easily accessed by walking or cycling. The site is also easily accessible by bus and the area has a frequent bus service.
“As part of the business plan the group propose to apply for grant funding to create off-site car parking on the grassed area to the rear of Druids House off Hampden Way.
“The car park area will not form part of the lease and the Council will not be responsible for the maintenance of that car park. The local member and housing department whose portfolio the land is held are supportive of the extension of the car park.”
The report has been welcomed by Council Leader Mark Pritchard, who has noted that the land will provide more public open space and will be looked after by the community.
Cllr Pritchard added: “It will be a nice area for the children and schools to use.”
The report will go before Wrexham’s Executive Board tomorrow morning at 10am. For those who cannot make the meeting, it will be webcast live on the Wrexham Council website.
