Yes, Jok, I knew that. It is also to do with the insurance they hold with “ply for hire” insurance prices being more expensive than “private hire”.
As for a uniform colour, “Hackney Carriages” come in all sorts of colours these days indeed, I’ve seen a blue one driving round town.
I have seen one as well with my wife driving it as I look out across the blue bonnet of the blue one I am driving.

There should be a Taxi/Hackney and nothing else. Private Hire should return to what it was. Wedding Cars, Funerals etc.

Wrexham has Hackney cabs. Usually 3 or 4 of them on King Street. They are perfect if you have young kids in pushchairs and don’t want the hassle of taking the pushchair down and then hoping the seatbelt on the taxi is long enough to go around your car seat. The difference to me, is the size of the vehicle. They tend to look like London Black Cabs whereas I don’t think I’ve seen a private hire vehicle that looks like that.
That is the whole point of my post, Private Hire Vehicles are not allowed by law to resemble Hackney Carriages (proper taxis) so that the public are able to distinguish the difference between the two types of hire vehicles, one type they can hire immediately, Hackney Carriages and the other type, Private Hire Vehicles, that have to be pre-booked through their respective operators. I hope this explains the situation, I realise it may be difficult to take on board the difference to many members of the public. That is why I would recommend a single colour policy for Hackney Carriages (proper taxis)
jokParticipantWhy do we bother!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jokParticipantSorry to inform you Councillor Wynn, but you and whoever else decided to make Ruthin Road one way from the junction of Bradley Road and Victoria Road towards the junction of Penybryn and Ruabon Road are misguided. All that is needed is a single yellow line on one side of the highway limiting parking during the daytime, say 0800 to 1800 on that section of Ruthin Road. The replacement of the roundabout by traffic lights at the junction of Ruthin Road, Victoria Road and Bradley Road should never have happened, another mistake by Local Government Officers who probably don’t even live in Wrexham. Why don’t councillors consult people like myself who have lived and worked the streets of Wrexham for over 40 years?

jokParticipantI would like to wager a bet that if bus drivers got paid by the number of passengers they picked up the service would be transformed overnight.
jokParticipantTo complement the improvement of the Memorial Gardens the council and the local member, the Leader of Wrexham County Borough Council, should remove the eyesore of the purple bus shelter that encroaches onto and into the Memorial Gardens at present, it is a disgrace.
jokParticipantDouble yellow lines are needed from Ruabon Road/Penybryn to the new traffic lights, not a one way system. Reinstate the roundabout with traffic lights activated by pedestrians wishing to cross the road. All traffic would be halted whilst people are crossing and traffic flow resumed by allowing a staggered start, say Bradley Road/Victoria Road first and Ruthin Road in both directions a few seconds later.
jokParticipantI have worked, on average, six days a week, except for holidays, as a Hackney Cab driver from the Taxi Rank on King Street in Wrexham for what will be 31 Years in January. That said it is evident that the current bus station is not fit for purpose in it’s present state. Too many buses competing for too few parking spaces with inconsiderate drivers waiting illegally on the highway in the hope of finding a parking space on the area reserved for bus parking, causing traffic jams by their actions. Buses are only allowed to stay a maximum of 15 minutes before having to move on, that does not happen. Some buses are parked for much longer than that and in some cases are used as a mobile rest room by drivers of a few companies. I would like to see the present bus station demolished and returned to how it used to be and the road infrastructure returned to it’s previous format. As far as moving the bus station to the Waterworld site is concerned it would not be a bad idea in principle as long as the site was large enough to accommodate all the necessary bus services. It would in my opinion necessitate the demolition of all the buildings on the site at present i.e. Waterworld, 31 Chester Street, The Law Courts, The Memorial Hall and the Police Station. It would be a a perfect site in terms of area, but would it be the ideal location geographically to serve the town centre? I am not totally convinced, but it could work.
