A new mayor and deputy mayor of Wrexham will be appointed tomorrow (Tuesday 21 May).
In March two nominations were put forward for the positions, which Wrexham Council describes as being a “political gift”.
Cllr Beryl Blackmore, who has served as deputy mayor for the last 12 months, will take over the mayoral role from Cllr Andy Williams.
It is the second time Cllr Williams has served as mayor having been put forward as a neutral nomination after a row broke out between councillors last year.
Cllr Tina Mannering has been nominated for deputy mayor for the coming year.
Both nominations will be debated and voted upon tomorrow afternoon at Wrexham Council’s AGM.
Unlike last year when the meeting turned into a farce Tuesday’s nominations are expected to run more smoothly.
The mayor making will take place at 4pm and will be webcast on the Wrexham Council website. The meeting will then reconvene for further council business on Wednesday 22 May at 4pm.
