Canolfan Gymraeg Wrecsam, the cooperative group pushing to re-open the Seven Stars pub as a Welsh Centre serving food and drink as well as offering meeting rooms and offices upstairs, has appointed a manager.
Amanda Hughes, from Brymbo, will be in charge of the centre when it opens in the New Year. Until then she will be working with the management team to appoint other staff, coordinate volunteers and link up with local food and drink suppliers.
The group had originally planned to re-open the pub before Christmas, however, due to prolonged negotiations with the landlords have taken the decision to open in the New Year.
Wrexham.com was taken on a tour of the historic building back in September to hear Canolfan Gymraeg’s impressive proposals for it.
Commenting on the new appointment Marc Jones, chairman of Canolfan Gymraeg Wrecsam, said: “Amanda is just the right person for the job. She’s a local Welsh speaker who knows the food and drink industry inside out. She will be a huge asset for us in ensuring the centre is run professionally.
“We’re still working with our landlords to finalise the lease terms. Because of that and the work needed in the kitchen and upstairs, we have decided that opening in the New Year is a better option than rushing to open before Christmas.
“The work being done by our volunteer board will now be supplemented by Amanda and that will be a great benefit as we gear up for the opening.
“Financially, we are still getting substantial investment from local people but also from people as far afield as London and even San Francisco.”
