Young learners have had a taste of what goes on behind the scenes in sport, thanks to a Wrexham Glyndwr University workshop.

Pupils from schools in Shropshire and Denbighshire visited the campus for a day to experience different sporting roles ranging from coaching, physiology to sport psychology.

Working with lecturers Tom King, Sara Hilton, Jonathan Hughes, Dr Chelsea Moore and Julian Ferrari, the youngsters enjoyed a full day of activities.

There were theory and practical sessions which gave the learners a glimpse into the roles played by those who support the development and progress of athletes.

Lecturer in Sport Psychology Tom King said the day was a great success with the visitors enjoying their time on campus and the opportunity to have a taste of the courses in Applied Sport and Exercise Sciences on offer at the University.

“We held a schools and colleges experience day here on campus”, Tom said.

“The idea was the give the opportunity to experience a range of sessions that are delivered as part of our sports programmes.

“The Marches School and Denbigh High School were in attendance, and took part in a variety of sessions including coaching, physiology and sport psychology.

“We hope to replicate the model moving forward so we can continue to show further education the enormous opportunities of studying sport here with us at Wrexham Glyndwr University.”
