Don’t push me cause I’m close to the edge! Grandmaster Flash to perform in Wrexham

Grandmaster Flash will perform in Wrexham this summer, celebrating 50 years of hip hop.
Having rose to fame in the 70s and 80s, Grandmaster Flash is a pioneer of hip hop music.
Few names have become as well-known across the globe as that of Grandmaster Flash. Not only is he one of the originators of hip-hop and a worldwide musical cultural phenomenon, but his groundbreaking use of the turntables make him the first DJ to play the turntables as a musical instrument elevating the status of the DJ to a masterful, artistic position.
His group, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5 went multi-platinum with their single, “The Message.” The group’s fame continued to grow with “Superappin,” “Freedom,” “Larry’s Dance Theme,” “You Know What Time It Is” and many more. Punk and new wave fans were introduced to Flash through Blondie, who immortalised him in their hit, “Rapture.”
This summer marks 50 years of hip hop, and to celebrate in Wrexham, FOCUS Wales, Neuadd Ogwen, and Theatr Clwyd have joined forces to present Grandmaster Flash at William Aston Hall on Saturday 22 July.
Joining him on the bill will be a selection of the best new artists in Wales at the moment, including: Juice Menace, Sage Todz, Niques, Lizzi£ Squad, Skunkadelic, and Larynx Entertainment DJs, all personally selected to take part in the show by Grandmaster Flash.
