Car Fire At The Back Of Matalan

Emergency services were called to a car fire in the town centre earlier this afternoon. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

At around 3pm this afternoon fire crews were called to a car fire at the rear of Matalan / St Giles car park. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The incident took place during today’s fire fighter strike. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A small crowd gathered to watch the car fire being extinguished, however it is not known how the fire started. ‘Ginger Cat’ sent us the below photo via Twitter. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Black smoke could be seen across the town, with one person sending us the below photo of the view from Eagles Meadow. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The car appeared to have have 100% damage, and as yet there has been no indication to the cause of the blaze. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
