An update of key incidents that have taken place in Wrexham city centre over the last 24 hours have been provided in today’s police report.

Insp Luke Hughes said:

Afternoon all, again a slightly later than preferred update, however I have spent the morning preparing to be reviewed by the Superintendent!

Crime figures, detection rates, visibility, finance, fleet, welfare all reported on and I don’t think we are doing too badly all things considered. At least he said I can keep my job until the next review so I’m sorry you are stuck with me.

So I’ll start by advising that the male arrested yesterday for the robbery has been released on bail pending CPS charging advice, as I’ve said previously, our hands are tied with the majority of charge decisions.

We will monitor him over the next few week and I’m confident charges will follow.

I also mentioned yesterday the arrest of a male on suspicion of domestic violence, this matter was charged and he has been remanded in custody and a date fixed at crown court, he will have to answer for his action before a jury.

So after a very wet night, I’m pleased to report that nothing of any significance has occurred in the last 24hrs, we did have a burglary reported, but in sheltered accommodation and the local officers will visit today and establish the facts of the matter.

I’m confident that this isn’t something the will bother the wider community.

We also had a car stolen in the early hours on Sunday morning, apparently a Silver Vauxhall Zafia had a mechanical issue and was left in the area of Coed y Bryn, the owner left the key within.

It was last seen heading towards Oswestry in the early hours of Sunday morning.

What follows is your usual timeline, details redacted to protect the innocent and vulnerable. Have a good evening all and take care.

10:14hrs – Report of a broken window, which appears deliberately caused in Montrose gardens, this is a local authority property so the cost will sit with the wider community, frustrating and pointless.

NPT will be monitoring the location and discuss matters with the local housing office.

11:02hrs – 999 call, sounds of a children’s TV programme in the background, gurgling heard and noises as though someone is eating the phone, a young child accidentally dialled 999.

11:13hrs – Request for officers to personally serve a witness warning to ensure attendance at court. Served.

11:43hrs – Officers attend a report of a distressed male, appears in need of immediate care and control and taken to hospital for support.

Officers have a number of powers of arrest, one is a power granted under Sec.136 of the Mental Health Act.

At times this is the power we use to detain someone who presents a risk to themselves or others, I understand that it could be distressing to see officers restraining someone, but it certainly doesn’t mean they are off to custody, most likely they will be taken to hospital or an alternative place of safety.

18:29hrs – Border retail park – two male shoplifters, not named. Desk based officers tasked to make contact. Demand is relentless from the area and staff are trying their best, we will be trying some new tactics to prevent issues at the area and a number of suspects are being sought already.

19:50hrs – Report of an attempt to gain entry to garages at the rear of Bath Road, officers will patrol the area this evening, not part of a pattern at present and keen to ensure this is not the start of something.

Little overnight other than a concern for the welfare of an elderly lady but she is being supported by family.

05:45hrs – Theft of PIAGGIO Scooter reported Rivulet Road – registration is CX57BWB – if you see it can you report using incident number B147071

I’ll end with some exciting news for me anyway. We are receiving a new car tomorrow, a full electric police vehicle, siren, lights and all the markings. I may not sleep tonight.

New toys, I’ll do my best at a Jeremy Clarkson full top gear review tomorrow.
