So they have decided to expand the membership to 96 , an increase of over fifty percent. There will be considerable cost involved which will increase year on year. At a time when budgets are stretched is this appropriate? Where is the money money coming from, which budget is going to be cut?

    In addition ..

“Senedd elections would be held every four years under a “closed list” form of proportional representation, which would see people voting for parties rather than specific candidates.” ‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌

This seems in principal to be anti democratic, what about the independent candidates and the single issue ones as well? Remember Martin Bell , who beat Neil Hamilton in a general election 1997. There is also a case for electors to have contact with an individual. Maybe the Senedd should ask the electorate whether they want a closed list system , the political parties in Cardiff appear to have lost sight of their purpose ……to represent the people before political parties.

Dafydd Wigley agrees democracy is not best served by a “list” system. Devolution was supposed to bring democracy closer to the electorate , this system makes it more remote.
