I keep hearing of patients in the Wrexham area having to seek treatment at other North Wales hospitals. Some of the services at the Maelor Hospital being transferred out. Whilst treatment at the Maelor is of a high standard, surely if this continues what will the future hold.

Jimbow whilst it would be ideal for us all to have all of our medical requirements met at a local hospital the reality is that there are not enough specialists in the country to offer this type of service. Would you want someone in your local hospital to carry out a procedure on you that they only do a couple of times a month or someone in a more specialist unit who does the same procedure a few time a week – I know which I would prefer!

This has been going on for decades – ion Wrexham it used to be if you had cancer – Christies, Heart- Braud Green, major children’s issues – Alder Hey, burns and skin – Whiston. All of these hospitals have and continue to provide excellent services for patients in North Wales. Does distance really matter.

There are also specialist equipment such as robotics that could never get installed in all hospitals.
