Is the official Royal visit to bestow the City status on Wrexham happening this Saturday? Invites have gone out to Councilors inviting them to attend St Giles this Saturday for a celebration – clearly due to the Queens mobility she is not going to visit Wrexham – when St Asaph became a city a few years back Prince Charles attended.

Nothing listed in Royal diary for next few months apart from Princess Royal (Princess Ann) attending Bangor on Dee races on 28th September.

How does Wrexham become a City without a formal Royal declaration event?

Fat Daz reckons that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have come back to the UK to award City status to a certain Welsh ‘town’.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly landed in the UK after making a trip to the UK on a “commercial flight.” He swears they sat in front of him on the Easyjet flight from Malaga.

It’s already done and on the public record – https://www.thegazette.co.uk/notice/4154400 – legally nothing else is required as the letters patent are granted. Maybe we’ll get the pomp and circumstance of a visit, maybe not.

Interestingly it’s the whole county borough that’s a city, yet the council has not bothered to change its name. A shame, we could have done something like Doncaster –

Thanks Acom for the link to the announcement – not sure how many people like me did not realise it was the whole County Borough that has now been made a City – did the Council make that clear to the people of Wrexham County. The Council always referred to applying for city status for Wrexham not Wrexham County Borough.

I wonder how the people who are now in the rural City of Wrexham feel about now living in a city..

I wonder if that would warrant a new Heraldic Coat of Arms fot the County Borough.

So we have now had an ‘explanation’ from the Chief Executive and Leader answering the Wrexham.com questions what and where is Wrexham City. The responses appear to indicate a level of uncertainty from the people who signed the application – is the city the old Wrexham town or is it the County Borough- their response is certainly not clear.

The actual patent makes it clear that the city status is for the whole of the County Borough – all the villages we have are now located in the city.

As the Council leadership seem unsure it looks like there is going to be another contract being awarded for outside consultants to come up with Brand Wrexham – ratepayers having to pay yet again.
