The Leader of Wrexham Council, Cllr Mark Pritchard, has commented saying: “I would like to thank CADW and Council officers for all their hard work and effort to date.

“Looking forward I will be inviting the Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Ken Skates, AM, to enter into talks with us as to how Welsh Government can assist us financially to ensure this building will be secured and safeguarded into the future, should English Heritage agree with his views as to listing this building.”

Perhaps someone should tell the good councillor ENGLISH HERITAGE have nowt to do with WELSH HERITAGE.

Just regarding Cllr Pritchard’s comments, we’ve had this message from Wrexham Council:-

“On this occasion the Welsh Government has asked English Heritage as an independent assessor to take a look at the Groves School and to advise on its “listing”.

Then I withdraw my remarks and apologise.

glad to note that Rex Ham is being a total gentleman on this but having seen and read the Deputy Minister’s letter to Lesley Griffiths AM there is no reference to English Heritage being the ” independent assessor. Just wondered how you came about your statement?

Did state in earlier post that it was a message passed to us from Wrexham Council – so we came about the statement after it was passed to us from Wrexham Council this afternoon!

Actually the Listing Authority for England is Historic England
    and for Scotland Historic Scotland.

The decision by CADW is for a ‘peer’ consultation/overview from an
independent peer group. That will be between CADW and either the
England (Historic England) or Scotland (Historic Scotland) Listing Authority.
