Hollywood actor Michael Sheen has donated £5,000 to a fundraising campaign in aid of a local boy born with a rare genetic condition.

Louis, an avid Wrexham AFC fan, was born with a rare genetic condition called TUBA1A.

He suffers from painful leg spasms, has limited mobility and is reliant on a wheelchair.

Louis also has epilepsy and cerebral palsy.

A JustGiving page has been set up to raise money for his family, who need £40,000 to help them adapt their home to help Louis.

This includes:

  • A ground floor bedroom which is wheelchair accessible and has enough space for independent play and for Louis’ parents and his carers, to provide care
  • A ground floor wet room to support him receive intimate care and eventually independent self-care in dignity;
  • Ease of access around the home to his own space and wet room by widening doorways;
  • Permanent and independent access to the home and garden;
  • Space for his standing frame, wheelchair, hoists, changing tables and physio equipment;
  • Ability to practise using his walker in accessible space at home and in the garden with a hope that one day he will be able to take his first unaided steps.

On March 23 Wrexham Police FC will contest a friendly match at Colliers Park, Gresford in support of Louis.

Their efforts have helped to raise over £9,000 ahead of next month’s match against North Wales Dragons at Colliers Park.

So far 735 supporters have donated to the family’s campaign – including £10,000 by Wrexham AFC owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

In total the fundraising efforts have raised almost £35,000 of the family’s £40,000 target.
