An ex-motorcycle police officer recently brought his bike out of retirement to take part in a 60 mile ride out for a local hospice.

Kevin Keen, who now works for Gwersyllt Co-op Funeralcare thought it was the perfect chance to support the community, and even had his ex-police bike re-painted with Co-op Funeralcare branding for the event.

He was one of more than 150 motorcyclists who participated in the 60 mile ride-out for Nightingale House Hospice.

The event raised more than £1,100 for Nightingale House Hospice.

Kevin Keen, now Funeral Arranger for Gwersyllt Co-op Funeralcare, said: “We care a lot about getting involved with community activities. The Nightingale House Hospice is a very worthwhile local cause that organises many fundraising events throughout the year.

“I was very proud to be a part of this fantastic effort, especially given its motorcycling-slant. I can’t wait for the next charity event.”

The 60 mile Nightingale Ride Out event began at the Llangollen Pavillion and ended at Swallow Falls near Betws-y-Coed Each biker paid £5 to take part, and there were also raffles and further donations that helped to raise the grand total of £1,140.

Chris Andrews, Area Fundraiser for Nightingale House Hospice, added: “We were overwhelmed by the response we received from people wanting to take part, and seeing more than 150 motorcyclists together was certainly an exciting experience.

“The main aim of the Nightingale Ride Out is to raise funds for the Hospice, but it also raises awareness about the vital work we do here for the community. We are so grateful to everyone who took part and would like to say a huge thank you.

“It’s a brand new event for us and we hope that in the future, people with no previous connection to Nightingale House will also join us on the ride out.”
