Over 200 people recently donned their trainers and glow sticks for a three hour charity Zumbathon challenge event raising over £6,000 for Nightingale House Hospice.

The event was held at the Glyndwr University Sports Hall and was co-ordinated by the Zumba with Beckie Team along with other local instructors including Michelle Firth, Zumba with Paul and Amy and Zumba with Jules.

Its success has spurred Nightingale House on to plans for a bigger and better Zumbathon event in the summer.

Samantha Lee, Community and Events Fundraiser at Nightingale House Hospice said: “Thank you to the Glyndwr University Sports Hall staff who were all so helpful, to all of the instructors, to the event sponsors Curves of Wrexham, and to all who attended the Zumbathon, we had such a fantastic turn out.

“The Zumba with Beckie Team did a fantastic job of sorting out the music and layout of the event making sure participants could take a break at any time.

“The participants really took on the party mood and with the disco lighting, glow sticks and fluorescent tutu’s there was certainly a fantastic atmosphere. One lady came out and said ‘We must do this again, I haven’t been to a club for years and being able to dance and party like this is brilliant.'”

“Some of the ladies who took part decided to raise money through sponsorship for the Hospice. Their contribution has increased the amount raised considerably and it was far more than we had anticipated.

“The success of this event is spurring us on to look at an even bigger outdoor event in the summer, which will be lots of fun.”
