Wrexham is holding its first ‘Carnival of Words’, a showcase of literature, poetry and entertainment events for all on 18th to 28th April.

Starting on the 18th of April, there is a literary bus tour leaving Wrexham library at 10am and visiting a number of local sites with links to some very famous authors. Local playwright Peter Read will be your entertaining and informative Tour Guide.

Another inspiring story is that of Welshman Kevin Green. Once homeless, he has become one of the UK’s top property developers and has created a number of businesses and social enterprises. He is launching his book “The Rich Rules…Steps to Wealth & Happiness” at a business dinner on the 20th April. At Wrexham Rugby Club, Kevin will share his story, followed by a book signing. Dinner is catered by North Wales premier caterers The Kitchen.

With the election coming in May, what could be more topical than an Interview with former Home Secretary Alan Johnson? Author himself of two books, “This Boy: A Memoir of Childhood” and “Please Mr Postman”. This is on the 22 April at 7pm, Gwersyllt Community Resource Centre.
Also from 7pm on the 22nd of April at Wrexham Library, it’s a visit from the Murder Squad! Crime fiction writers Margaret Murphy (A.D. Garrett), Kate Ellis and Martin Edwards will discuss what makes a perfect crime novel and answer audience questions.

Wrexham schools have been invited to enter a short story competition and the winner will be announced this evening. Earlier in the afternoon, a series of workshops for budding writers will be held in the library. Spaces are limited but are FREE!

Local authors are invited to a free networking event at the Library from 5pm on the 23rd – a chance to mingle and meet others striving and succeeding in the same craft.

Who doesn’t love a little bit of time travel? Whovian Happenings brings together two prominent Dr Who authors, Justin Richards and Mark Wright to interact with the audience on all things “Whovian”. There’s also a free workshop with Mark Wright with the topic “Creating Alien Worlds”. This will be in the morning of Sat the 25th at the Catrin Finch Centre, Glyndwr University.

Following swiftly on, the afternoon of the 25th will see the Catrin Finch Centre transformed from time travellers to the historical fiction era. At Romans to Redcoats, some of the genre’s most prominent authors will be on hand to talk about their passion for history.
