Wrexham.com’s Unique Q&A with Local Election Candidates – Did yours reply?

This evening sees us close the door on accepting answers to our candidate questions to local prospective councillors. We sent out over 130 letters to each individual candidate and 40 took the time to write replies. We gave all candidates the option of replying via email, or via post (even though that meant we had to type them up) to ensure everyone had a chance to reply.

If you are voting in Acton, Bryn Cefn, Cartrefle, Cefn, Gwenfro, Marchwiel, Marford and Hoseley, Minera, New Broughton, Overton, Ruabon South, Plas Madoc, Smithfield, Stansty or Wynnstay wards there is no point having a look – as none of your candidates bothered to reply!

Brynyffynnon, Gresford & Whitegate all scored 100% of candidates replying!

Since we opened our /elections/ section nearly 5000 pages have been served and around 2,500 unique readers have read pages there – many reading several pages of answers. Our Q&A with candidates in Ponciau is so far the page that has taken the longest to read – averaging well over 3.5 mins! Its unfair to read too much into the ‘most read’ pages as we place them up as they came in to us, however there is a marked advantage to being first out of the blocks.

This is a unique project to help engage people to local democracy, and we are unaware of any other website, newspaper, television channel or radio station doing similar for the 2012 elections (we have checked!). It is likely this is due to the effort required, however be prepared for more of it as we are opening a physical news desk in the town center on May 1st, as this site is here for Wrexhamites!

There has been some pretty decent debate between candidates themselves and voters over on our forum (check this thread out for example!) and we are still ten days away from election day!

Keep checking our site over the coming week for election updates, and join us on election day (and night) itself where we will be doing updates throughout the day, then minute by minute coverage live from the count itself!
