Ricky Tomlinson takes time out for a picture with Wrexham.com's Liam Randall at the X Factor auditions in Liverpool.

Wrexham.com had a brush with fame today in an off chance meeting with Ricky Tomlinson at the X Factor auditions in Liverpool.

The Royle Family star, who lived in Coedpoeth for many years and recently bought a cottage in the village, was at the auditions to cheer on a female student who works and performs at a cabaret club in Liverpool which he co-owns.

Ricky took time out to meet and greet fans during a break in filming and this reporter managed to grab a picture with him, much to my delight.

His ties to the Wrexham area stem back several decades and Ricky was even involved in the building of the A483 during his time as a builder.

The Liverpudlian, most affectionately known for his role as the grumpy Jim Royle, also took part in the official reopening of Cherry Tree Care Home on Coedpoeth High Street where he treated residents to a few numbers on the banjo.

Ricky sadly didn’t have time for a full Wrexham.com interview given that he had plenty more fans clamouring for autographs and pictures, but a pat on the back and a “Cheers kidda” was more than enough to make my day.
