Wrexham Train Forced Into Emergency Stop After Narrowly Missing Pedestrian
A train was forced to come to an emergency stop after narrowly missing a pedestrian in Wrexham yesterday morning.
The Bidston to Wrexham service due in at 10.30am was coming towards a pedestrian footpath crossing between Cefn y Bedd and Gwersyllt when an elderly lady began to cross despite the train heading straight towards her.
Passengers were initially confused as the train ground to a sudden halt before they realised what had happened.
Much to their shock the pedestrian was then said to have walked off seemingly oblivious to her narrow escape.
Elliot Jones who was on the train when the incident happened said: “We heard the train horn so I looked out the window and saw a lady in a red coat to the side. By this point the brakes had been put on and we came to a rather abrupt stop.
“After a fair amount of time we continued and the conductor came around to say that a lady had been narrowly missed, but to the driver’s and conductor’s surprise, even after the train stopped she continued to walk down the steps!
“The train was running 10 mins late so I assume she didn’t expect it to be there, but the train is relatively noisy so it just emphasises the care needed to be taken around train tracks.”
