The first waterslide event in Wales is to take place in Wrexham this weekend – with hundreds expected to slide through part of the town centre.

An estimated 500 people till take part in event, which features a 260ft waterslide that will take participants from the top of Yorke Street through to Mount Street (work is currently underway on trying to decide how to stop people when they slide to the Nags Head at the bottom of the hill!)

Inspired by a similar attraction which was installed on a Bristol street last year the Wrexham Waterslide is organised by Nightingale House, with all funds raised going towards the provision of patient care at the Wrexham based Hospice.

The slide, which is around 80m in length, is expected to attract thousands of spectators from throughout the region to witness what could be the largest event of its type, so far, in the UK.

As well as the waterslide there will also be various activities and refreshments throughout the day.

As part of the event there will be closures in place on Yorke Street / High Street / Mount Street. The road closure will be in place from 6am Sunday morning through to 7pm on Sunday evening.

Motorists have been advised not to leave their vehicles parked overnight on Saturday on that street.

Entries for the waterslide close tomorrow – so for those who fancy taking part there is still time! For those interested it’s £10 for two go’s on the waterslide and all proceeds go to Nightingale House Hospice.

There will also be ‘first come first saved’ tickets available on the day to allow people to use the waterslide between 3pm and 4pm.

More information on how you can register and how you can get involved is available on the Nightingale House Hospice website.
