With just six weeks to go until the local government elections Wrexham Council are encouraging residents to make sure they are registered to vote.

On Thursday 4 May voters in Wales will take to the polls to select new councillors to sit for five years. In Wrexham a total of 52 councillors will be elected across 47 electoral divisions.

The deadline to register to vote in this election is Monday 13 April.

The local governments elections are when you decide who represents your community on the Council which will then deliver local services such as bin collections, education and social care.

If you’re not registered to vote you will not be able to take part in the local government elections in May and will therefore be unable to have your say on who represents you locally until 2021.

Returning Officer, Dr Helen Paterson, said: “With only a few weeks to go, time is running out to make sure you can take part in these elections in Wales. Our message is simple – if you’re not registered by 13 April you can’t vote.

“I’d encourage everyone in Wrexham to act now if you’re not registered to vote and apply online.”

You can register to vote online here. It’s very quick and easy and by registering you are showing you wish to have a say in how your council is run for the next five years.
