Wrexham Play Day & Free Parking Returns This Wednesday
Wrexham Town Centre is to be transformed into a giant play zone this week, with thousands expected to descend on Llwyn Isaf to celebrate National Play Day.
In what has become a popular calender event for Wrexham, Llwyn Isaf and Queens Square will once again be full of fun and games for children of all ages on Wednesday 5th August. The event will take place between midday and 4pm and everyone is invited to join in with this free event.
Organisations from across Wrexham who are involved in children’s play will be on hand to provide a wide range of playful opportunities, including favourites like the giant sandpit, mass water fight, junk play and rope swings.
The aim of the event is to highlight children’s right to play, encouraging people to recognise the value of playing to children, their families and their local communities.
Approximately 3000 people joined in our Playday celebrations last year and all that is asked is that you bring along a playful mood and some clothes you don’t mind getting wet and messy. In the past families have brought along picnics and stayed all afternoon to enjoy the event.
Cllr Ronnie Prince, Lead Member for Youth Services and Anti-Poverty, said of the event: “Play Day is all about giving children across Wrexham the opportunity to enjoy a fun day out with their friends and families. It is vitally important that we ensure children are able to enjoy some of the most important years of their lives as they develop and grow in a fund and entertaining environment and events like these help to deliver that.”
An added benefit to this year’s event is the FREE car parking in all Council run car parks for the day – with the event one of three taking place in the town this year to benefit from free parking.
Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “The Council made a decision to offer free parking for key town centre events and Play Day is certainly one of these events. Free car parking will be available in all council run car parks on the day and we hope that residents enjoy and support the event and also support the local economy.
