Wrexham residents who have Covid-19 symptoms will be able to continue accessing free Lateral Flow Tests until the end of July.

Initially the provision of free tests was due to come to and this month.

However due to an increase in the number of coronavirus cases the Welsh Government announced that it would extend the availability of free tests until July 31.

An estimated 1 in 45 people in Wales currently have Covid-19, according to the latest survey undertaken by the Office for National Statistics.

Tests will be available to the public that are showing symptoms of coronavirus (high temperature a new, continuous cough, a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste), alongside free access for people visiting someone eligible for new Covid-19 treatments.

Access to free lateral flow tests was originally due to end in Wales at the end of June. Free mass testing ended in England at the beginning of April and Scotland ended free LFTs for most people after Easter.

Lesley Griffiths MS said: “Whilst we are all getting used to life post-pandemic, it’s important to recognise coronavirus has not disappeared completely and we all remember how quickly the situation can change.

“With the latest data indicating cases are on the rise, I’m pleased the Welsh Government has acted decisively and announced this extension.

“The Welsh Government adopted a cautious approach throughout the pandemic and this move is a clear demonstration this stance will not be abandoned.

“Testing remains a key component in the battle against Covid-19 and ensuring LFTs are still available free of charge will make a difference here in Wales.”

Self-isolation payments of £500 will end on 30th June 2022, whilst the Covid-19 Statutory Sick Pay Enhancement scheme will be extended until 31st August 2022 to support social care staff to stay away from work due to testing positive.

Ms Griffiths added: “Vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones.

“If anyone eligible for the spring booster has yet to receive their jab, I urge them to get boosted before the 30 June deadline.”
