Eighty primary school pupils from Wrexham recently had the chance to find out about the inner workings of parliament.

The children from Ysgol Plas Coch enjoyed a tour around the Palace of Westminster Hall last week and had the chance to take part in a question and answer session in Westminster Hall with Wrexham MP Sarah Atherton.

Sarah Atherton MP said: “It was an absolute pleasure to welcome pupils from Ysgol Plas Coch to Parliament today.

“The pupils had on a full tour of the historic Palace of Westminster and were able to see the inner workings of Parliament.

“They later had their chance to quiz me about my day-to-day role as an MP, green spaces in Wrexham, our Levelling Up and Culture bids and of course, Ryan Reynolds.

“It was fantastic to see how engaged and knowledgeable the students were in both Parliament and our democracy. As I’m sure many MPs would agree, some of the most intriguing and insightful questions come from primary school children.

“It is always a delight to meet the teachers and students from Wrexham, and if you are a teacher who would like to take up this opportunity, please do not hesitate to get in touch with my office who will be more than happy to help.”

Geraint Jones, Deputy Headteacher at Ysgol Plas Coch said: “Democracy was brought to life for our pupils today.

“They were in awe of the Palace of Westminster and enjoyed watching MPs, Lords and Baronesses debating in both Chambers. It made the 5 o’clock start from Wrexham worthwhile.

“We’d like to thank Sarah Atherton MP for the invite and welcome, and for answering questions from our intrigued pupils.”
