Emily Birch, Library Assistant at Wrexham Library, has just had her first story for children published in an anthology of stories about animals and birds.

The new anthology, Animal Stew, has been published as part of the Manchester Children’s Book Festival at Manchester Metropolitan University and will be launched at the festival on June 30th. Poet Laureate Professor Carol Ann Duffy CBE OBE, Creative Director of the Manchester Writing School, describes the anthology as “fascinating, entertaining stories from some very talented new writers.”

Emily’s story, called ‘A Precious Pearl’, is based on one of her own chickens who goes on a journey of self-discovery. Emily said, “I’m delighted to have my first story published – it’s really exciting, but I’m already working on a full-length novel!”.

Emily, who has an MA in Creative Writing, is the Children’s Creative Writing Group Leader at Wrexham Library and she puts her writing skills to work with the children, including short stories, poetry, comics and pop-up books. During the Summer holidays, she will be leading creative writing sessions for children at Wrexham Library.
