Four vehicles have been set on fire in Wrexham overnight in what are thought to be deliberate attacks.

The incidents took place within an hour period between 12.35am and 1.39am this morning.

Vehicles in the Acton/Rhosnesni area were worst hit with fires on Derwent Close, Hazel Grove, Park Avenue. There was also one in Caia Park on Anthony Eden Drive.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the fires were believed to be deliberate and that North Wales Police have been informed.

It’s the latest in a spate of car arson attacks in the town, earlier this week a car was set alight in Marchwiel and at the start of the month arsonists set fire to a car in Glyn Ceiriog.

A caravan was also set on fire in a suspected arson attack in Caia Park and in a non vehicle related incident two pubs were targeted by arsonists overnight in Coedpoeth over a week ago.

In March the fire service reported that there had been 91 arson attacks on cars in Wrexham in a year accounting for over half of the 177 deliberate car fires across North Wales in that period.

Update: Monday 3pm

Local Inspector Andy Jones has appealed for information regarding the car fires over the weekend, he said: “A joint investigation between North Wales Police and NWFRS is being conducted into the incidents and we are keen to hear from any member of the public who saw any suspicious behavior in those areas or indeed has any information which may assist us identify the offenders.”

North Wales Police can be contacted on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
