Temporary traffic lights will remain in place in Rhosddu after a ‘sink hole’ appeared on a main road.

It appeared on Rhosddu Road, opposite the Spar, on Wednesday afternoon.

Wrexham Council carried out works yesterday to patch the hole, however it continued to sink throughout the day.

Grosvenor councillor Marc Jones said he hopes that a full repair will take place in the coming days.

Cllr Jones said: “The council patched the hole initially but it very quickly became clear that it was a sink hole as the tar was sinking fast during the day.

“In fairness to the council, there was a speedy response and traffic controls were introduced to ensure drivers and cyclists were safe.

“I’m hoping a proper repair will be done. We’ve had sink holes in the area in the past few years and we need to find out what’s causing them.”

Temporary traffic lights have been installed and Wrexham Council are looking into the necessary repairs.

A spokesperson for Wrexham Council said: ““We have placed lights on that section of road to make it safe while a utility provider checks a line they have in the same area.

“Once we have considered that information we will look to carry out any necessary repairs.

“There are now two way traffic lights in the area and it will be monitored over the weekend by staff to ensure the area remains safe for road users and the general public.

“The lights will be in place next week and drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible or to allow more time for their journey due to congestion at peak times.”
