Wrexham Clothing Exchange thanks Co-Op for £1,400 donation ahead of Saturday’s event

A Wrexham Clothing Exchange has received a £1,400 financial boost thanks to a donation from the Co-Operative.

‘Swop, not Shop’ will return to the city centre on Saturday (December 3).

Held at Eagles Meadow’s ‘Pop-up’ Space – the former Sports Direct – the monthly event is entirely run by volunteers where visitors can pick up a ‘new wardrobe’ from other swappers’ preloved clothes and accessories with the aim of reducing their carbon footprint, reducing landfill, and helping those during the current cost of living crisis.

There will also be a free mince pie available to the first 50 entrants.

Lead organiser Sharon Rogers said: “We are looking forward to our Christmas ‘Swop Not Shop’, it’s one both our volunteers and swappers look forward to.

“There’s always a good festive spirit from everyone.

“We will be adding to the atmosphere by offering a free mince pie to the first fifty entrants and many of us will be dressed festively.”

Organisers have also given their thanks to the Co-Operative, which has shown its support for The Wrexham Clothing Exchange with a £1,423 donation.

So far the funding has been used to buy new sewing machines with plans to spend the remainder of the funding on free sewing lessons in Wrexham next year.

Sharon said: “We’d like to thank the Co-op for their Christmas present of a donation, we are extremely grateful for their £1423.37.

“We are thankful to them and their local representative, Victoria Davies for seeing the worth of this project.

“This will help save our swappers money and reduce their carbon footprint and landfill.”

She added: ‘On Saturday, the clothing exchange is £3 on the door, but as always please contact us in confidence if you cannot afford this and need clothing.

“We will also be welcoming Incredible Edible’s ‘Free Give & Take’ Stall and our sister event, The Wrexham Book Exchange; both are entirely free.

“We are always thankful to all at Eagles Meadow for use of the space. We’re very grateful that the management, staff, and security have been so helpful, they have been very welcoming since inviting us.

“We also must thank our volunteers who work so hard to make the event a success each month.

“Finally, thank you to our swappers for making each event such an enjoyable experience.”
