Over 50 calls were made to town centre police in the last 24 hours.

In Thursday’s (30 June) daily police update, Wrexham Inspector Luke Hughes said:

The last 24hrs are best described as “steady” but a few incidents of note from the 53 calls for service we received. Also just to let you know I’ll be circulating some CCTV of our “pram bandits” in the next day. It appears they have travelled out of the area having travelled in around a week or so ago.

09:42hrs: Female causing a disturbance in a shopping area, known to local officers and feeling low, officers engage and calm her down, still no excuse for behaving this way in public. But she has a lot of ongoing issues at present, referrals will be made to local support services, enforcement to be taken if this behaviour continues.

10:16hrs: I mentioned yesterday a theft in the town centre, looks like two occurred the same time, some more detective greenery from outside a shop on Lord street, enquiries ongoing.

10:38hrs: Male now causing issues on Lord Street, similar social issues to the female, same response and taken away from the situation and referrals will be made. So much of our time these days is taken up with mental health and welfare concerns.

11:58hrs: Call from a bank in town – we have an agreed protocol if any vulnerable persons enter and appear to be making unusual transactions it triggers an immediate response, on this occasion it appeared to be in order, however in the past we have managed to detain suspects that have been exploiting people and trying to facilitate large bank transfers and withdrawals.

12:10hrs: Domestic occurrence leading to the arrest of one male.

12:25hrs: Sighting of a wanted male – this leads officers on an extensive foot chase focusing in the area of Bryn Offa, Victoria Road & Ruabon road. Male was detained, 1-0 on the foot chases of the day. I’m reassured we do win some.

13:50hrs: Theft from parked vehicle in the area of Felin Puleston – seems the informant went for a walk and on her return two bags have been stolen and a window broken.

Quite a rare crime at the moment, maybe once a fortnight, likely an opportunist, I am reassured nothing of value stolen, but the damage clearly very frustrating for the victim.

15:28hrs: The stolen van from yesterday’s up date is located on Overton way recovered for forensics examination.

15:59hrs: Sighting of another wanted male – extensive police response and search in the Caia park areas resulting in his safe arrests. Another winning foot chase… 2-0. Top result.

18:40hrs: RTC in town centre vehicle v bollards – no injury reported.

03:24hrs: Suspicious male seen in the vicinity of a property, possible opportunist snooping around – area search conducted no sighting.

04:07hrs: Three people enter late night shop, two distract staff and third takes washing powder and dishwashing powder. Clearly hoping for a clean getaway – sorry I couldn’t resist – follow up CCTV will be conducted today.
