Thanks Issued to Council Staff Who Attended Over 55 ‘Urgent Calls’ During Storm Doris
Community leaders have publicly thanked council staff who were called on to deal with over 70 incidents across Wrexham during Storm Doris.
The storm, which hit Wrexham yesterday resulted disruption to travel and caused damage to trees and properties across the county.
In total members of Wrexham Council’s Streetscene Department were called to over 55 urgent calls throughout yesterday.
The hard work of the Streetscene workers during the difficult conditions has been praised by lead members at Wrexham Council and members of the public.
Cllr David A Bithell, Lead member for the Environment and Transport, said: “Streetscene staff over the next few days will be continuing the massive clear up of fallen trees and broken branches and making safe areas following the damage.
“There were over 55 urgent 17 non urgent calls dealt with I would like to thank our staff and contractors who worked during the storm to keep roads and traffic moving during difficult conditions.”
Cllr David Kelly, Lead member for Public Protection and Planning, said: “Officers from the Building Control team were called to five incidents yesterday that all posed a danger to members of the public.
“These included unsafe chimney pots and roof slates falling from properties. I would like to thank them all for their vigilance and their continued monitoring of the situation in order to ensure the safety of the public.”
Wrexham Trading Standards have since issued a reminder to residents that during periods of bad weather, traders may attempt to use this to their advantage for business.
Elsewhere across the region North Wales Police have also issued thanks to the public, colleagues in partner agencies and their own staff for their response in relation to Storm Doris.
Across North Wales officers dealt with an additional 500 calls yesterday due to the weather.
Officers are advising that issues such as fallen trees and branches are still causing issues on some minor roads across the region and are advising people to drive safely.
