A week-long initiative has shown students and staff at Wrexham Glyndwr University (WGU) how they could live more sustainably.

Go Green Week brought students and staff together to take part in a range of fun and engaging activities and initiatives to raise awareness of sustainable living, including a scavenger hunt, sustainability fair, a clothing exchange held in WGU Students’ Union and more.

While, those interested in growing their own vegetables planted seeds to take home or nurture in the university’s communal garden.

During the week, there were also additional vegan options served in WGU’s canteen and catering outlets, and there was also increased promotion of greener travel options, including the university’s Cycle Hire Scheme.

To celebrate the end of a successful week, tree planting took place behind Borras Park School in Wrexham.

More than 100 trees were planted by staff from WGU, Wrexham County Borough Council and Llais y Goedwig – the community woodland network for Wales.

Jenny Thomas, Safety, Health and Environment Manager at WGU who organised the event, said: “Our annual Go Green Week is a brilliant way of highlighting the importance of sustainability and encouraging positive change among students and staff at WGU.

“I’m extremely pleased to say that this year’s event was a super success – it was fantastic to see so many students and colleagues engaged and taking part in our activities throughout the week.

“I’d like to thank everyone who worked hard to organise and make the week so enjoyable and interesting for everyone, including our Students’ Union. I’d also like to thank all of the students and staff, who came along and took an interest in what we were doing.”
