Temperatures have been rising in Wrexham, however the summery weather looks set to come to an abrupt end in the next 48 hours with thundery showers on the horizon.

Over the past few days Wrexham has been basking in the sun and experiencing highs of almost 27C.
However while many have been enjoying the heatwave (or summer), the weather is set to take a sudden turn over the next 48 hours with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning for heavy rain and even a thunderstorm.

The weather warning is in place between 3am on Wednesday 21st June and 6am on Thursday 22nd June. At the time of writing it appears that the rain is forecast to hit Wrexham at around 1am on Thursday morning, rather than on Wednesday itself.

A statement released by the Met Office reads: “Bouts of rain, heavy and thundery at times, will move in from the west to affect parts of southern Scotland and northern England from the early hours of Wednesday.

“More extensive thunderstorms may then break out over a larger part of England and Wales from late Wednesday afternoon onwards into Wednesday night, leading to torrential downpours, frequent lightning and a chance of hail.

“This could result in some disruption, more likely from late Wednesday afternoon, which may include sudden localised flooding of transport routes, homes and businesses.

“Frequent lightning in association with the heaviest rain may also temporarily disrupt power supplies. However, many places will likely see little or no impacts. Indeed many parts of the warning area will see dry and sunny weather through much of the daytime on Wednesday.”

There is good news for people who haven’t been enjoying the warm weather, with temperatures set to drop to 18C on Thursday. Those who are enjoying the hot temperatures can look forward to highs of 27C on Wednesday afternoon!

The current view for Wednesday and Thursday is below, as of 2pm Tuesday:
