Six to contest Smithfield council election

An election will be held to decide who gets to be the new councillor for Smithfield ward.

Following the resignation of the previous councillor, Wrexham Council have moved quickly to arrange the new election.

Last time out 1820 people were able to vote, with just 445 casting valid votes – and the ward being decided by a margin of 27 votes. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Today’s nomination deadline has passed and the names of those who will be on the ballot paper have just been announced.

In the order of how the Returning Officer published names…

Richard Bennett – Independent
Siôn Edwards – Welsh Labour
Jayne Johnson – Independent
Jon Jolley – Plaid Cymru
Graham Kelly – Welsh Liberal Democrats
Toni Prince – Independent

The election will be held on Thursday 23rd February 2023.

To take part and vote you must be registered by midnight on Tuesday 7 February 2023 – as usual register to vote via www.gov.uk/register-to-vote ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
