A “significant number” of what is thought to be counterfeit cigarettes and tobacco have been seized.

Working with the Wrexham Trading Standards officers from North Wales Police seized the items on Sunday (20 June) morning.

It is thought the cigarettes and tobacco were intended for sale locally.

Wrexham town inspector Luke Hughes said: “Please don’t be fooled when buying “cheap” cigarettes, most of the time these are not real and have been made simply to exploit this undercover market.

“Counterfeit tobacco / cigarettes have been shown to contain extremely high levels of tar, nicotine, arsenic and lead and lead to excessive inhalation of carbon monoxide and smoking isn’t any good for you at the best of times.”
