Glyndŵr University is celebrating its most successful student production of all time after its version of Grease sold out every night.

The production, which was performed by students studying Theatre, TV and Performance degree sold saw tickets for three evening shows completely sell out,

Six performances of the hit musical were held across three days in the Catrin Finch Centre in Wrexham last week.

The annual shows held at Christmas and summer allow students to develop their skills on stage and behind the scenes.

Recent productions have included Little Shop of Horrors, Blood Brothers and Open Voices, a play devised to promote awareness of dementia in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Society.

Elen Mai Nefydd, senior lecturer in theatre, tv and performance, said: “We’re thrilled with the response we’ve had from the public for the show this year.

“Putting on shows like this is an important part of students’ development as theatre professionals and it’s great that we have the facility here at Glyndŵr to give them such opportunities.

“A tremendous amount of work goes on for months behind the scenes, from student auditions right through to creating the set and practising with our live band, so we’re really proud of their achievements once again.”

The next student production by Glyndŵr University students takes place in summer 2014 at the Catrin Finch Centre.

Alongside annual shows, students are involved in a range of projects with community organisations such as the NHS and North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

Students also recently received a masterclass workshop from Clwyd Theatr Cymru’s Associate Director Tim Baker, who was made an honorary fellow of Glyndŵr University earlier in 2014.
