Each candidate has been invited to make a written statement as well:
“I am proud to call Wrexham my home. I have lived here most of my life. I attended Llay and Darland Schools as a youngster and now work as a lecturer at Wrexham`s Coleg Cambria campus. Last few years I have been very active locally. I am a governor at Darland, my old secondary school and Vice-Chair of the Friends of Alyn Waters Country Park group. I was also involved in the Save Hayward`s Field campaign in my home village of Llay. I am standing for election to become your MP for a variety of reasons, but mainly to restore people`s faith in democracy which I believe is in a sorry state, not just in Wrexham, but in Wales and further afield.
“Wrexham has had the same MP for the past 14 years and I believe it is time for a change. I want to be Wrexham`s next MP to represent everyone in the constituency. Not only will I represent residents at the House of Commons, I will also use my position to hold the Welsh Government to account. The Welsh Government in Cardiff has a greater influence over the issues that affect our lives than Westminster does. By working alongside North Wales AM Aled Roberts, I will speak up for residents over the important issues.
“I have been campaigning round Wrexham for the past 4 months. Many have said they will vote for me, but others are unsure. I can understand where this apathy comes from, especially when we see politicians on our TV screens who appear out of touch from our lives. Political representatives should be people like you and me. I am standing as a Welsh Liberal Democrat candidate as I share their values for fair play and balance. I want to help my party colleagues by campaigning for important issues such as more nurses in our hospitals, further tax breaks for low paid workers and increased spending for the poorest school children in our community. However, the Welsh Liberal Democrats are not my number 1 priority. The people of Wrexham are.
“A local MP is what you will be voting for, not a government. That is one of the great myths of our democracy, that we elect governments and Prime Ministers, we don`t. Don`t you think it is time for a change? If you think “yes”, then please do vote Rob Walsh on 7th May.”
As the videos come out we would encourage you to share them to as many people as possible, analyse and discuss the content and hopefully get people to take part and vote in the election!
