Restaurant plans for city centre building given the go ahead
A disused building on the outskirts of Wrexham city centre is set to be converted into a new restaurant.
It comes after planning permission for a change of use of the building on Bridge Street was given the go ahead by Wrexham Council.
The plans for 26-30 Burton Buildings, which were most recently a dog groomers, were submitted to the local authority in September.
The building, which was built in 1896 and is Grade II listed, was described by the applicants as being in a “poor state of repair which still requires some work”.
However in a move to restore the building to “its former glory” the applicants proposed that it used to house a new Thai restaurant.
The application was approved by the council’s chief planning officer via a delegated decision.
Plans show a restaurant area will be located on the first floor and cellar, along with a potential bar area.
The cellar, which will be accessed down a spiral staircase, will also include toilet facilities.
Details submitted to the council said that the restaurant would open between 6pm and 10:30pm Monday-Friday, while opening hours on a Saturday would be 6pm – 11pm and 6pm – 10pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
Two new full-time and two part-time jobs are also expected to be created.
The applicants said: “It is believed that the conversion to a restaurant will have many benefits to the building and city alike.
“By changing the premises to a restaurant will also bring the cellar into use which has its own history in itself and will be utilised by renovating the brickwork and preserving the mural on the wall.
“The property will be renovated and preserved to high standard with minimal effect to the structure.”
