Public urged to stick to footpaths and close gates to prevent livestock escape

Members of the public are being urged to stick to public footpaths when walking through farmland and to make sure gates are closed.
It comes several farm gates have been left open in recent weeks on land in the Rhostyllen and Erddig area.
This has caused livestock to get loose and wander onto roads.
Police officers have checked the area and all fencing was found to be in order.
Now members of the public walking in the countryside are being urged to ensure that all gates are closed and secured after use to ensure that animals don’t escape.
North Wales Police Rural Crime Team are encouraged walkers who use footpaths through farmland to abide by the Countryside Code:
- Be safe, plan ahead and follow any signs. Take maps/guidebooks.
- Leave gates and property as you find them.
- Protect plants and animals and take your litter home.
- Keep dogs under close control.
- Consider other people.
A police spokesperson said: “Concerns have been raised that several farm gates have been left open in recent weeks on land in the Rhostyllen and Erddig area causing livestock to get loose and wander onto roads.
“Those using public footpaths through farmland are urged to ensure that all gates are closed and secured after use to ensure that animals do not escape.”
