A former Wrexham youth club could be converted into two residential dwellings if planning proposals are passed.

In an application submitted to Wrexham Council, proposals have been put forward to convert the former Gresford Youth Club on Vicarage Lane into two residential units.

The building was formerly used as a youth club, however has not been used since its closure last summer. At present the interior of the property consists of a large hall, a stage and a smaller building; used as a workshop area, offices and toilets.

If the application is successful, then both of the newly converted dwellings would consist of two bedrooms and would have a total of four parking spaces.

Within the application’s Design and Access Statement, details of the proposed changes to the building’s exterior are also provided, with the document noting there is a section of flat roof the ‘client’ is looking to replace to
reduce the amount of maintenance on the building.

A front entrance porch would also be added onto the front of the building, which would allow ‘the existing staircase to remain and front entrance door to swing into the dwelling as opposed to swinging out as existing’.

The application concludes: “Conversion of an existing structure within the village of Gresford will not affect the current street scene as the buildings are to remain as per existing with some additions to improve the usable floor space available to my client.

“By agreeing to the proposal the local authority will ensure a currently disused building will not fall into a state of disrepair and provide 2no comfortable homes within the sort after village of Gresford.”

The application is expected to go before Wrexham’s Planning Committee at a later date.
