Police Slam Arsonists After Car Set Ablaze In Wrexham
Police in Wrexham have slammed mindless arsonists who deliberately set a car on fire last night endangering the lives of nearby residents.
A Ford car was completely destroyed after it was set ablaze whilst parked on the driveway of a house in Fenwick Drive at around 11pm.
The incident is just one of a spate of car arson attacks in Wrexham in recent weeks.
Police are very keen to hear from any person who saw any suspicious activity in the Fenwick Drive area at around 11pm.
Detective Inspector Simon Williams from North Wales Police has hit out at those responsible and said that the fire could easily have spread to nearby houses endangering lives.
DI Williams said “This was a totally mindless act. In addition to the vehicle being completely destroyed those responsible have had no regard for the families in this residential area.
“The vehicle was parked on a driveway close to the house and it was only by good fortune and the prompt action of the owner and neighbours that the fire did not spread otherwise the consequences could have been far worse.
“I would urge anyone who has information to contact North Wales Police as soon as possible and allow us to put this to an end before someone is seriously injured.”
Last week alone there were 8 deliberately started car fires in the Wrexham county and there have been 21 since January.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service also revealed that there have been 91 arson attacks on cars in Wrexham since 1st April 2011 accounting for over half of the 177 deliberate car fires across North Wales in that period.
Anyone with information on last night’s attack is urged to contact Wrexham Police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
