Prices reached 149.9p per litre for unleaded petrol at Smithy Garage today

Petrol has hit a high of 149.9p for a litre of unleaded at one Wrexham garage today as panic buying continued.

The Smithy Garage on Chester Road was charging the price, as well as 152.9p for a litre of diesel.

The prices are around 10p more than the the average found in the AA’s latest fuel price report.

Debate has been strong between our @wrexham followers over whether the price hike is fair or not.

Anne Bayley (@AnneBayley) said: “rip off taking advantage of vulnerable people. Hope when everything back to normal that rip off garages are boycotted.”

Peter Ellis (@thedruid65) said he would also boycott any garage which increased their prices.

However, Rich Brady (@richmbrady) argued: “Supply and demand I’m afraid. Garages make very little on fuel sales, so why would’t they add a couple of pence?”

Phil Sumner (@pmsumber) added: “As much as I’d like to be indignant about it, if I were them I would be doing the same thing. If you gotta buy it, you gotta buy it.”
