Work is underway to tackle an ongoing issue of off-road motorbikes in the Caia Park area.

In his daily update Wrexham City Inspector said officers were called yesterday afternoon to reports of a gathering of motorbikes at “The Dunks” and Queensway.

Insp Hughes said: “I’m trying to be polite, but I’m really getting annoyed about this one.

“They really don’t appreciate the upset they are creating in their own neighbourhood, as well as the damage they cause to the grass and the danger they present to pedestrians and other road users.

“I have a photo (pictured above) that has been taken locally. Certainly, no identification forthcoming from this but you can see the level of care they have for themselves and others.

“Do they really think that hoody will help them when the inevitable happens?”

The remainder of Insp Hughes’ can be found below.

I managed to get this done a little sooner today as I have a rare day off midweek – on account of working nights this weekend.
It’s an ideal opportunity for me to see how things are going in the city centre and get some focus on the issues I have previously raised and discussed with you.

I’m especially interested in seeing how the traffic situation is now that we have had some significant upgrading and simplification, this would be the early stages of the wider project we are working with Wrexham Council to resolve.

The sense of safety in the city both day and at night is an absolute priority. Almost all of our questionnaires completed at the ‘cop shop’ to date confirm that people feel safe in the day… but night sadly that sense of security is lacking.

I’m also keen to find out what we can do to work closer with our colleagues on who work at the many licensed premises on the doors and also have a chat with some of the licensees.

So, a day off it is and I’m currently tapping this out in a café in the city centre.

I shall not name it for fear of sponsorship scandal, but it’s the sort of place you can get some ‘bargains’ for your ‘home’ 🤓. See what I did there?

So anyway, the sun is shining and all is well with the word (at least locally anyway).

I do however have a few matters to update you on and so I’ll get straight down to business.

08:33hrs – Damage to a parked vehicle on Smithfield Road. Appears overnight a wing mirror has been damaged, unsure if passing vehicle or deliberate, either way very frustrating for the owner.

11:15hrs – City centre bank – problematic customer – officer attend to calm matters.

1:30hrs – Eagles Meadow –female detained following report of shoplifting offence – officers attend. She is arrested on suspicions of retail theft and subsequently charged x 4 and appearing in court as I type.

16:30hrs – Suspicious vehicle – Plas Coch – stop check on occupants – appears in order.

16:45hrs – Assault – male reports being assaulted on Crescent Road and having cash taken. Female arrested on suspicion of robbery a few hours later. A rare offence.

18:10hrs – Bikes are back – Anthony Eden Drive – riding on footpaths, it’s now getting dark, no lights….

18:24hrs – Officers assist with the landing of the Air Ambulance in its usual location on Ruthin Road. They are assisting locally with a medical emergency.

18:54hrs – RTC – Bryn Coch – damage only and insurance will resolve.

19:04hrs – Elite security staff in Border Retail strikes again, female detained. I wish they would give up at this location – he’s too good for you. This female arrested on suspicion of shoplifting and breach of CBO. In custody at the time of writing.

(For fear of offending any other security guards, you all do an amazing job)

19:21hrs – Concerns for safety, officer attend and locate safe and well.

23:43hrs – Concerns about a male trying to get into the front door of a property on Queensway. Officers attend and locate a gentleman a little worse for wear trying to get into the wrong house – taken home.

01:22hrs – Concern for female – located and taken to place of safety.

02:21hrs – Concerns for male – located and taken to hospital to treat injury.

And that’s the lot. The biggest demand yesterday was social and health related incidents. We have spent a disproportionate amount of time at the hospital this week, as well due to a few ongoing issues.

My priority going into the weekend is to come up with a cunning plan to deal with these bikes. Watch this space.

I hope you all have a pleasant day and please take care.

Luke
